Sheinbaum clarifies: "Hernán Bermúdez's case is not comparable to García Luna's."

During her morning press conference on July 28 , President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed for the first time the case of Hernán Bermúdez Requena , the former Secretary of Security in Tabasco linked to a criminal group known as La Barredora . The president emphasized that his case should not be compared to that of Genaro García Luna , a former federal official during Felipe Calderón 's administration who was convicted in the United States for drug trafficking .
"It's different, and the investigation is ongoing. You can't hold someone responsible until proven otherwise," Sheinbaum said.
Bermúdez was head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection during the state administration of Adán Augusto López , current senator and former Secretary of the Interior. Authorities confirmed that there is already an investigation file against him , as well as an Interpol red notice for his international location.
When asked whether this situation affects Adán Augusto López Hernández's leadership in the Senate, the president was blunt:
"Yes (it's solid), because the senators are there. There's no investigation against the senator. If anyone ever wants to ask him, of course he'll say so."
So far, there have been no direct accusations against López Hernández , but the case has generated media pressure due to his ties to the former Tabasco official.
In contrast, Genaro García Luna was prosecuted and convicted in the United States on drug trafficking conspiracy charges, after years as a key figure in the PAN government's security strategy.
